7th overall Purple Heart Futurity bred by James Van Helden/flown by James Henton (JD Lofts). Sire is Fabry and dam is Staghorn directly off 13th Indian Head Auction Futurity.
Purple Heart Futurity is a band race that is hosted by the "Heartland Federation", and has quickly become the largest band race in the upper Midwest along with being one of the leading premier band races in the country. It is one of the most affordable futurity races out there with bands costing $25 each or as little as $20 each if you buy four bands and get 5th one free. 1st place is guaranteed $5,000 with a 50/50 split breeder/handler. The name of this futurity race was decided by the Heartland membership, as they felt that the "Purple Heart" is one of the highest awards given to brave individuals in the military. Considering our little feathered friends were one of the first animals recognized for their bravery during times of service (Dickins award), like the legendary "Cher Ami" pigeon, the name of the race was named. It takes brains, courage, and bravery to compete at the level of competition in the Heartland Federation and Twin Cities Concourse membership who are eligible to be handlers in this prestigious race. Heartland Federation who host this race is also proud to say that over the last 5 years, we have given away over $100,000 to charities such as veterans, local scholarships including some of our previous junior members going off to college, cub scouts, girl scouts, etc. All of this in the name of pigeon racing, and the hobby/sport we as fellow fanciers love.
Thanks, Dennis Kuhn President Heartland Federation
